So how many of you are aware that the World Science Fiction Convention is going to be in Melbourne next year? Yes, I know Melbourne is in Australia and this is an NZ group, but this is as close as the Worldcon ever gets to us, so we should be considering it a local event. Start planning now.So why tell you now? The first progress report for the convention has just been released with lots of good stuff in it. You can also get more info from the web site or the lj community. For further information, you could also come along to Conscription at QB weekend in Auckland. The Aussiecon 4 head of communications (Donna Hanson) will be there and can answer your questions.Or you can ask me. Because if you want to know my motivation in posting this, have a look at the staff list on page 2 and right near the bottom of the list you can find my name.
I recommend reposting this to worldcons.
Thanks for the link. I was really just aiming locally as per the NZ liaison role. However, I will prod the people who post more general publicity stuff on the australia2010 community that it exists and may be useful.
I know several major author types planning on coming.Speaking of which, I wrote to Conscription yesterday regarding panel availability- are you perchance the person who checks the email?
You are right, Worldcons always have lots of major authors - its a big part of the attraction. Australia also has a big population of aspiring authors who will be there in big numbers too.I'm not involved in Conscription at all I'm afraid - apart from intending to attend that is. I do know a few people though - if you don't get a response, email me at the address on my info page for alternative contacts.
